The Basics of SEO

If you are new to the world of websites, you definitely haven’t heard of SEO. SEO represents search engine optimization, which is an activity that is constantly optimizing your websites for the search engines.

Why would you want to optimize it for the search engines? If you use Google and are loving the results you can easily get from typing in what you wanted to search for, you are already seeing SEO in practice.

If the websites wasn’t optimized for Google, you will have to sift through a lot of garbage sites to be able to find what you wanted in the first place. By optimizing our site, we tell Google what are site is all about and how it will be able to help searchers. If Google loves the way we optimize our sites, we may be blessed by getting a 1st page ranking.

In order to have a well optimized site, here are a few basic steps that you need to do for SEO.

1. Have good content.
If you have been in a position of not getting the results you want from certain keywords, you would definitely understand how much time it wastes to check out sites with useless content. If you want a well SEO-ed site, you have to put out great, well-written content, instead of content that is stuffed rich with keywords.

2. Have proper HTML. When you are too focused on the other aspects of SEO, you might forget the basics of it, which is writing HTML that is easily read by the search engine’s spiders. If your HTML code is broken, the spiders will ignore you and only see you as a useless website.

If you want to rank high in the search engines, it is important to write proper HTML for your pages.

3. Do good keyword research. By performing a great research on what your website is about, you will be able to provide what people are really looking for from your site. You need to be laser focused and have keywords that are tightly related to the content on your site.

Last but not least is that SEO is an ever continuing effort. It doesn’t make any difference in rankings overnight so don’t give up when it’s only been days when you started SEO-ing your site.

You have to be patient and keep tweaking your site. In the end, you will be rewarded with a front page ranking and get free traffic.
