Most people keep focusing on the advanced stuffs of SEO even when they haven’t finished with the basics. It’s no wonder they can’t get high rankings at all. Without further ado, here are some basic SEO tips you can implement today before jumping into the more advanced ones.

1. Although search engine spiders are starting to get smarter and smarter at crawling for links. However, it will waste their time if you can’t make your site interlink properly. If it looks like a huge maze from the spiders’ eyes, then it probably is a very confusing website for your visitors to navigate around.

2. Tell the world how different you are. If your keywords and descriptions don’t say how different you are from the other billion websites, chances are you won’t get ranked at all. If you are slightly different, you may have the chance to get ranked for a certain keyword.

3. Do you have backlinks? If you want the search engine spiders to have some way to find you, you better get some backlinks for your website. This can be done by either submitting useful articles to article directories or even doing guest blog posts in other people’s blogs.

4. Do you have proper title tags? If your About page has the same title tags as your shopping page, it’s confusing the spiders. Differentiate them by giving them unique title tags that are relevant to the page.

5. Understand your competition. If you want to outrank your competitors, you have got to start understanding their SEO strategy. Do a backlink check on their website, see where they are getting their links from. Spy on what anchor texts they are using. If possible, copy what they do and put more effort into your site’s SEO. If this is not done, you will never have a chance to outrank them.

6. Track your rankings. If after doing all the SEO, you still don’t know which keyword you are successfully ranking for, you might as well not do any SEO at all. You have to ride on the wave of your success. If you are ranking for a certain keyword, write more content for that keyword so you get pushed to the golden #1 spot.
